Sullivan County Council on the Arts - Supporting the arts, culture and heritage of Sullivan County, Pennsylvania

If you have an idea for a program we could promote, a class we could teach or an event we could sponsor, let us know.

The SCCA is an entirely volunteer organization that cannot exist without input from people like YOU.

OK, there are a couple of weirdos living under the Forksville covered bridge who have a direct connection to some very intelligent aliens, but we don't talk about them in civilized society.

Help us find a home

The SCCA, like the boll weevil, is looking for a home. Right now, we depend on the kindness of volunteers and friends like the invaluable Peggy Anderson at Sullivan Terrace in Dushore and Colleen Engler at the Highlands in Laporte who have hosted numerous activities.

Working with the Sullivan County Recreational Association, we hope to find a space in a new multi-purpose building proposed for Laporte.

Still, please keep your eyes open for any affordable space for offices, classrooms, an art gallery or a small community theater.

Let us know if you run across anything interesting.

About the Sullivan County Council on the Arts

The Sullivan County Council on the Arts was founded in 1988, with Vivian McCarty as president.

Florence Suarez became volunteer executive director in 1992.

All board members, officers and workers are volunteers – we have no paid staff, no "home base," and almost no overhead. All donations to our work go directly into our programs.

Over the years, the SCCA has developed a wide range of programs with special strengths in the visual arts, student awards and theater. A major concentration over recent years has been on the Roving Historical Theater, devoted to bringing the history of Sullivan County communities alive through local stage productions held in individual county communities.

Please browse our pages to learn more about who we are and what we do.

ppa logo The SCCA is supported in part by Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA), the regional arts funding partnership of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency. State government funding comes through annual appropriation by Pennsylvania's General Assembly and from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. PPA is administered in this region by the Bradford County Regional Arts Council.

The photos arrayed around this page show the winners of the annual Choice of Show competition at the Sullivan County High School. With this award, the SCCA purchases the winning piece, frames it, with accompanying plaque, and places it on permanent display in the main corridor of the high school.
